We were out Friday night and got talking to some fellow Torrance residents, before long we were discussing bikes and desert racing. His eyes lit up when we mentioned the Four Aces Club, he was a member approx 1947 - 1951, then he joined the Navy and never returned to racing. He recalls riding and racing with Tex Myers, Fred Ellsworth and Moose Page. He was racing at the 1950 Big Bear Run when Moose Page had his accident. We told him about the just held 58th running of the Moose Run and how the club and racing are these days. He is going to see if he can find some old memorabilia from those years and we will hook up again. Was great to chat and swap stories.
Very cool.
I moved this thread to the General Discussion forum, because I think we occasionally get old timers who find this board, and I want them to be able to see stories like this.
Invite him out to the next Moose Run. I love stuff like this. I cant remember 2 weeks ago, let alone 20+yrs ago. It was cool meeting Jim Rice at our work weekend. He was all over "On Any Sunday". Stories from the great days of desert racing are the best.
I met a fellow a couple years ago named Jim Bear. He belonged to the Four Aces from 1939 to 1943 when he went into the service. He and Moose (Mason) Page grew up together and his mother gave Mason the nick name of Moose.
Small world. susie
It is fun when we meet up wit members from the past. I was with a friend when he went to look at an old 1941 Mercury that was for sell... turned out to be one of my computer club members house.... when an old neighbor was ambeling over the guys scooted (escaped) to the back yard... I got to talking to him and it turned out that His name is Jim Bear and he said he used to belong to the Four Aces... I asked him when.... 1939 t0 1943.... He and Moose (Mason) Page grew up together and it was his mom that tacked Moose with his nickname.
Homer Knapp just talked to one of our members up in Oregon,,, he is 81,, can't remember his name but will find out. Have the old 1952 -1953 slides about ready for his inspection before making disks.... One of the Posters is dated 11953,,, the events are from the Four Aces, Rams, and Checkers.
