Saturday- Had a pretty good start. Picked my way through a few peeps and then rode my butt off on the second loop, thinking it was the last loop, WRONG! One more time around ???.
The courses weren't bad, but the 10 mile ride to the starts BLEW!!!!!
Sunday race was just a trail ride with Kent after staying with Phill and HBMC guy.
Me, Kent and Phill all lined up together on far left (bad move). We all went the same way and were going pretty good, We all cut down to hit a wash and went to far (with a train of riders behind us). The guy in front of me swapt out bad and ate it big time (knocked out for 2-4 min. not moveing). I saw him going down and looked back to see Phil and the KTM fly'n through the air. As I stopped in front of the HBMC guy so know one hit him, Kent was doing the same for Phil. We were about 10 yards from each other.
We hit truck sized whoops at speed and it didn't work out so well :o. After about 10min with the guys, R-3 pulled up and Kent and I went for a nice trail ride around the course.
Everyone is bringing friends out. This is real good. Keep'em comming guy's. We may have enough people, to not have to work triple duty at the H&H next year....
Thanks everyone.......
What a great way to spend a Saturday! Only raced Saturday and brought out a coworker (Alan), unfortunately he was detered by the length and type of terrain just to get out to the start line but, good on him he didn't ask for a refund so Shammies/D37 got a little extra from him.
Course B at 11:45:
It was hot. Got to the line just before the banner went up and had a 2-3 kik start (i am getting tired of that). The dust was bad so just took it easy until I could find clear lines and air. Then I saw the carnage, crashes and squids who had trouble with the rocks and hills. Reminded me a lot of some of the stuff i rode in Idaho so I had a great time. Finished 4 loops and very happy to say that i was not lapped by Delgado Jr... though he was 4-5 minutes behind me according to his dad, lol! I have to agree with Greg; pushed during the 3rd loop thinking it was the end, and ended up going 4. Really did have fun.
Course A around 5:15 (late start):
Talked to Kent before take-off and he told me that there was a couple rocks out there and to pick good lines and stick with them, so thats what i did. Way more Rocks and Tech than loop B but, was more up my alley. Middle of the pack start and then I started picking people off. Got into a good groove when I got in behind a young 2-smoker, lost him in the poof then all of a sudden, there is a bike in front of me on its side... Pinned it & held on. I jumped the kids bike, it was great (probably scary for him). So I stopped and waited while he got up asked if we was ok, and he was so I bailed. This all happened right in front of Grumpy so maybe there will be pics... Flew around and did three loops. At the finish one of the Shamrocks called me over and said had finished, "9th OA and 4th in Class, nice ride!" SO STOKED, guess them young punks don't like the rocks to well, LOL. Had soooo much fun on this race
I am chalking this year up to just learning how to ride. From this race I felt what it was like to be "in the zone." Learned a lot about throttle control, i.e. getting the front wheel up and going faster through the gnarlier sections. And, learned all about the throttling out of swapping/bucking (?) Any time the ass-end got crazy I would throttle out and it ended up working for me. I will definitely be going into the Vet class for next year.
Had fun with all of the Aces, chatted with Doc for a while and finally got to meet 50/50 (hope you're ok from your get-off)
See you all back out in the dez, probably 100's
Cheers!
I want to thank Greg and Kent for ever thing you guys did for me and staying until rescue 3 got to me you guys are great and I am very proud to belong to such great club.Sorry I made you guys lose out on your races.I also want to thank Eddie , John and Sergio for following me home .The up date on me is nothing broken but I have huge bruise on my hip and on in my arm pit and a concussion.I still get dizzy if I look down or up for too long (so I don't do that) but it's better than it was on Sunday.I will heal with time I wish I could say the same about the bike bent bars ,twisted forks, skid plate pushed back and looks like the nose of a crashed paper airplane(I think from a rock buried at the top of a whoop)I think I cased it.It'll be while before I race again $$$ and negotiations with the BOSS.
Phil,
Glad to hear nothing broken (on the body). Take care.....
Phil,
Thanks for the update and glad your ok!
Phil better be careful, Kathleen might put you on a one loop diet again.
